Hard Bound: Tom of Finland at Library180

NEW YORK, NY—Tom of Finland Foundation will present HARD BOUND, its first print archive exhibition in New York City, at Library180 in downtown Manhattan.

The four-day exhibition will feature original published works from Tom of Finland’s Kake series, early print compilations, collages, and preliminary drawings to provide a comprehensive look at how the artist’s images developed from initial studies to published form.

The preview will take place on Sunday, September 20, with a scholar-led panel discussion between Kirin Wachter-Grene, Andy Campbell and cultural critic Michael Bullock.

The conversation will examine Tom of Finland’s impact on queer visual culture and the broader histories of erotic media and LGBTQ+ creative expression. A special reception will follow the panel.

Following the preview, HARD BOUND will be open for public viewings through Thursday, September 24, by appointment. Bringing together published works and preparatory materials, the exhibition invites audiences to consider the relationship between artistic process, reproduction, and cultural legacy in Tom of Finland’s work and materials it inspired.
